This Black History Month, we are celebrating history-makers who started their journey in Texas public schools.
Ron Stallworth is a retired police officer who grew up in El Paso, Texas, and is a former student of El Paso ISD. In the 1970s, Stallworth and his family moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he became the first black cadet in the police department. In 1978, he went undercover to infiltrate the KKK. In 2015, Stallworth authored a book about his investigative experience titled “Black Klansman,” which became the movie "BlacKkKlansman." The film was nominated for six Academy Awards in 2018 and won Best Adapted Screenplay.
