– Forums will focus on public education ahead of November election –
AUSTIN, TX (September 25, 2020) – The Raise Your Hand Texas Foundation today announced a series of fall 2020 nonpartisan For the Future candidate forums leading up to the November election. The forums will focus on issues impacting public education and feature candidates for the Texas Legislature.
These 16 events are a continuation of the forums and town halls hosted by the Foundation in the spring ahead of the March primary elections.
“Public education is always on the ballot during any election,” said Dr. Libby Cohen, the director of advocacy at the Foundation. “Now more than ever, school–where, when, and how it happens–is top of mind for voters. Parents and teachers want to know that the Texas Legislature has their backs. It is important to Raise Your Hand Texas that we continue having conversations with candidates about public education issues.”
Each event will include questions focused on statewide public education issues such as school funding and the state budget, assessment and accountability, and vouchers and charter schools. The candidates will also have the opportunity to answer questions about local issues affecting schools in their legislative districts.
To ensure adherence to local guidelines on public gatherings, there will be no live audience attendance at the events. The events will all be streamed via Facebook Live.
