AUSTIN, TX (December 15, 2020) – Raise Your Hand Texas got in the Christmas spirit today with a letter to Santa calling on Texans to reach out to state leaders. The letter asks to “HO-HO-HO-HOld Our Schools Harmless” and avoid drastic cuts to public education.

Concerned that our state leaders have yet to continue to fund our schools based on historic attendance — a technical term called “hold harmless — Raise Your Hand wrote:

“It is possible schools may find coal in their budget stocking instead of much-needed funding. That means they will have to lay off teachers or cut programs next semester.”

Raise Your Hand recognizes that this year has been hard on everyone — especially educators. The organization is asking Texans to contact legislators to tell the Governor to maintain the “hold harmless,” which expires Dec. 31, for the rest of the school year.
