With four days remaining in the 87th Legislative Session, the second round of federal stimulus funds awarded in December of 2020 have yet to flow to Texas schools. Our schools are still seeking clarity from state leaders on when and how much funding will be allocated and whether that funding will be offset with a reduction in state funding. Over 45 states have allocated these funds across the nation. Texas schools are planning for summer programs, after-school programs, and other activities to stem the learning loss due to COVID-19 and would like to see this issue resolved.
There does not need to be any legislation passed in the remaining days of the session to flow these funds to our schools. Texas has already allocated the third round of federal stimulus funding according to the federal guidelines and can do the same with the second round.
