The Texas Association of School Business Officials estimates that between 50% to 60% of the state`s school districts are facing budget deficits, even as the state maintains a $23.8 billion budget surplus.
"The basic allotment in Texas hasn’t increased in six years, and in that time, our budget has gone up 13.2%, but inflation has risen by double that, which is simply not a sustainable model,” said Nancy Humphrey, Plano ISD board of trustees president. “We cannot continue like this, and I worry that the quality of our student experience will diminish."
